When you open the door of your beautiful Lowcountry home in Celadon, South Carolina, you open the door to a world of opportunities. Culture, art, fine dining, life long learning, and healthy active living are at your doorstep in this coastal community just five minutes from Beaufort SC.

64 large islands comprise Beaufort County and include Port Royal Island, Parris Island, Fripp Island, and many smaller ones.  Stately moss draped oak trees, and beautiful waterways are picturesque backdrops for walking and bicycling trips such as the Spanish Moss Trail, a nearly 10-mile greenway located in Northern Beaufort County that has become a “Must-Experience” activity for residents and visitors alike.

The easy proximity to water invites kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and gives bird watchers the opportunity to see a variety of beautiful birds.

Carolina Wildlife Magazine contributor Bill Hilton Jr. writes of birding in Hunting Island State Park. “Where else can you walk a causeway with a freshwater pond on your right with Great Egrets, Least Bitterns, Common Gallinules, and American Alligators?” And a salt water mudflat and marsh on your left with Long-billed Dowitchers, King Rails, Black Skimmers, and Fiddler Crabs, and a sky full of Brown Pelicans, Ospreys, Rough-winged Swallows, and Painted Buntings?”

Where else, indeed?

Arts and Culture

Beaufort’s historic downtown area on the waterfront is a trove of art galleries and antique shops. Art lovers enjoy the Thibault Gallery, Beaufort Pics, Indigo, Ly Bensons, and the Pinckney Simons Galleries during the annual Fall Artwalk, scheduled in 2017 for October 28th from 5 – 7 PM.

Beaufort’s “The Point” district is a National Historic Landmark and renowned for an impressive collection of antebellum architecture. Take a stroll, bike ride or carriage ride around the Point and immerse yourself in the history and ambiance of another era.

Beaufort’s arts scene is so vibrant and varied that in 2016 the S.C. Arts Commission named Beaufort’s downtown area an official South Carolina Cultural District.

Never Stop Learning

Beaufort’s residents enjoy the Osher LifeLong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of South Carolina Beaufort.  OLLI is a membership-led organization that offers people 50 years of age and older stimulating courses, lectures, and educational travel, along with opportunities to meet others with similar interests. No tests, no stress, just the enjoyment of learning.
